Back to the 80’s for World Vision

The exquisite, candelabra-lit setting of Puente Romano’s seaside Sea Grill set the scene for an ambitious fund-raising event on Friday night, in aid of desperately disadvantaged children in Sierra Leone.

World Vision, the world’s largest international children’s charity hosted a well attended and highly entertaining concert with the guitar and vocal genius of The Gypsy Kings warming up the crowd for the headlining act, 1970’s-chart-dominating international group Boney M who left their mark on the 70’s and 80’s with their distinctive Euro-Disco/Reggae/R&B music and almost irreverent, eccentric costuming that would give Lady Gaga a run for her money.

The aim was to raise €50,000 to make an impact on the lives of 13,000 children and their families…in a country voted almost top of the list for the worst places to live on earth.

A raffle made possible by over 20 generous sponsors included spectacular prizes such as a yellow gold and diamond studded ring designed by Vierri valued at €3,500, a white gold diamond trimmed necklace worth €1,400 by Tony Aboufarra who has just opened a shop in Puente Romano, two nights break in Puente Romano Beach resort, dinners for two, rounds of golf, spa treatments and top designer fashion items.

The night was an overwhelming success, with everyone up dancing to anthems such as “Rivers of Babylon”, “Woman don´t Cry”, “Rasputin” and “Daddy Cool” during the evening. Fireworks and fire jugglers entertained the crowd while the raffle tickets were sold and everyone dug deep to support the impressive, transformative work that World Vision carries out around the world.
