Madrid drugs ‘bust’

SPAIN’S National Police have detained a woman in Madrid’s Adolfo Suarez airport for hiding 1.7 kilos of cocaine in her fake breast implants.

The 43-year-old Venezuelan woman arrived in Madrid on a flight from Bogotá, Colombia on Friday.

The woman came to the police’s attention after displaying a nervous attitude and strange behaviour, which roused officers’ suspicions.

Focusing on the woman, customs officials and the police noted certain irregularities and odd shapes in both her breasts.

When apprehended, the woman confessed to having hidden the cocaine within her person, and was immediately transferred to a Madrid hospital for her own safety. With the implants removed, she was arrested for her crime.

In a press release, the National Police described how would-be smugglers try to hide drugs in all sorts of peculiar objects and places, including book covers, under wigs and even in the plaster casts on broken legs.

Up to mid-July this year, Spanish police had confiscated 493 kilos of cocaine and 6 kilos of heroin, with the arrest of 189 drug traffickers.
