Mo Farah clinches gold

Mo Farah has won the 10,000m European Championship gold medal in Zurich in just his second race on the track this season.

He has struggled with injury meaning he missed the Commonwealth Games earlier this year and will aim to win gold again this Sunday in the 5,000m. He proved too strong for the competition despite his fitness problems, showing his clear quality as a long distance runner after dominating the Olympics and World Championships in recent years.

He beat off Turkish runner Ali Kaya with just over 50m to go whilst another Briton snatched silver at the line, Andy Vernon making it a British 1 – 2. The winning time was 28 minutes 8.12 seconds and was a lot slower than that of world standard.

Following the race, Farah also embraced Usain Bolt. Farah is, however, improving and will look to get back to his racing best soon enough.
