UK students stabbed in Borneo

Two students from Newcastle University, Neil Dalton and Aidan Brunger, have been stabbed to death after leaving a bar in Kuching, Borneo. Approximately two hours after the event, 4 suspects, two of whom are believed to have prior convictions for armed robbery, were arrested by local police.

The 22 year olds were on a placement in the Malaysian part of the island for 6 weeks in order to practise what they had been learning and had been due to return home on Friday.

Following an argument about noise in the bar the two students left for their backpacking lodge but were followed by a car containing the group of men. The bodies were found, one with multiple stab wounds and the weapon later recovered.

Vice-chancellor Professor Tony Stevenson of their home university said “This has come as a huge shock to us all and our thoughts are with their families and friends at this very difficult time”.
