A commercial Qatar passenger aircraft on approach to Manchester International airport from Doha has been escorted by RAF military Typhoon fighter jets this afternoon following a suspect device being discovered on-board.
The Qatar Airways Airbus A330 was landed under RAF escort, the aircraft once on the ground was secured by police and emergency services following a full scale emergency landing to ensure the safety of the aircraft, and all 269 passengers & 13 crew on-board.
The threat level is not officially known and the airport is reported as running normally following a short lock-down.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) has advised passengers to remain calm and the airport has now reopened as usual.
GMP has confirmed a male passenger has been arrested and detained on suspicion of making a hoax bomb threat.
