Spanish police report they have arrested two Spanish females who had planned to travel to Iraq or Syria to enlist in the Islamic State jihadist group.
A statement issued by the Interior Ministry says the pair were arrested on Sunday morning in Spain’s North Africa enclave city of Melilla whilst the duo were planning to enter neighbouring Morocco.
Police have said: “Once there, they were to be sent imminently to an area between Iraq and Syria.”
The elder female of the two identified as Fauzai Allai Mohamed, 19-year-old. No details of the young female are known.
Spain has arrested dozens of suspected jihadist militants and recruiters in recent years.
