Madrid train evacuated

A suburban train in Madrid had to be evacuated this morning, Thursday, after its brakes caught fire in the final carriage. At first the wheels started smoking before flames appeared.

The incident occurred on the Cercanias train riding on the C7 line at La Garena station. The train was heading towards Alcalá de Henares.

Emergency services quickly arrived and service resumed not long after that.

The incident came on the one year anniversary of the horrific Santiago de Compostela train accident in which 78 people died. It was the worst train accident in the country for decades.
