One Direction’s Tomlinson’s failure

One Direction Singer Louis Tomlinson has failed to raise the €2.5 million he said would be needed to improve his hometown club, Doncaster Rovers.

Tomlinson and former club chairman, John Ryan, were revealed as Doncaster Rovers’ new owners last month. Their first order of business was to launch a plan to raise money to build a supporters’ trust with a 5% stake in the club.

Fans were asked to donate to the scheme. However, as few as 700 fans got involved. Not even Tomlinson’s bandmates, Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, Liam Payne and Niall Horan, took out their wallets for the cause.

Tomlinson offered e-mail video thank you cards in exchange for a €13 donation. There were also a range of high end offers, such as an opportunity to watch a game with Tomlinson in Keepmoat Stadium’s VIP box for €15,000.

Because the ambitious aim of €2.5 million wasn’t reached within the allocated month, all the €900,000 pledged will not have to be paid, including €750,000 promised by the young star and John Ryan.

What really hurt the star was the fact that you had to be over 18 to contribute, ruling out the bulk of his fans from helping him.
