Seven time champion Roger Ferderer and top seed Novak Djokovic both had to produce comebacks to win their quarter finals.
Federer lost the first set before fighting back to win 3-6 7-6 (7-5) 6-4 6-4 against his countryman, Swiss Stan Wawrinka.
His title rival, Djokovic, was two sets down against Croat Marin Cilic but he kept his cool and came back to win 6-1 3-6 6-7 (4-7) 6-2 6-2.
Eighth seed Milos Raonic defeated the 144th ranked, teen sensation, Kyrgious 6-7 (4-7) 6-2 6-4 7-6 (7-4).
