Irish attracts Spanish holidaymakers

Mesmerising images of Northern Ireland are being aired on Spanish television as part of a tourism promotional campaign targeted at Spanish holidaymakers.

The advertising campaign features wild rivers, towering mountains and rugged rocky outcrops to highlight Northern Ireland, as the location and home to the popular HBO TV series ‘Game of Thrones.’

The latest drive has been produced in collaboration with one of Spain’s largest online travel agents, Rumbo.

The Irish tourist board estimates  that more than 265,000 Spanish tourists visited Northern Ireland last year. Spain is the number one destination for Irish tourists worldwide, with more than 1.3 million visits from Ireland to Spain every year.

Manager of Tourism Ireland in Spain, Barbara Wood, said: “2013 was a record year for Spanish visitors to Ireland. We are undertaking an extensive programme of promotions throughout 2014 to keep the momentum going and build on that growth. June is the most important month in Spain for decisions about summer holidays and given the huge popularity of football and the World Cup in Spain, this is a really good time for us to whet holidaymakers’ appetites with beautiful images and great offers.”
