Director’s plan a great success in 2014

THE amount of schools that now form part of the ‘Director’s Plan’ has gone up by 19 per cent.

The plan, a joint project between the National Police, Guardia Civil, and the government, aims to do away with bullying, cyber bullying, drugs and alcohol in schools by talking over the causes, and possible solutions, with students as well as informing them of tell tale signs of bullying and how to avoid “peer pressure” to do drugs.

Andres Garcia Lorca, government subdelegate to Almeria, presided over the closure of the programme for this academic year and was accompanied by the Almeria Chief of the National Police, Custodio Hidalgo, the head of the Guardia Civil in Almeria, Francisco Jimenez, and the Plan Director Coordinator and Chief of the unit for Violence Against Women Concepcion Reyes.

In his closure speech Garcia Lorca underscored the fact that there had been more student participation in the plan this year with more than 3,000 students attending the police exhibition in the Almeria bullring and a rise of 164 per cent in students attending talks and workshops within the plan.

Lorca went on to comment that the most popular talks and workshops were always the ones about internet bullying, alcohol and drugs as students are particularly affected by these matters. He also pointed out that there were more and more requests to do talks on gender violence as this seemed to be something students were very curious about.

More than 50 diplomas were given out to the combined police forces as a mark of gratitude for their hard work in this matter which, although not an obviously traditional policing method, was proving to be a big success in prevention.
