Soggy start to Glastonbury festival…

It never rains but it pours – especially it would seem at the Glastonbury music festival.

The umbrellas went up as festival-goers rushed to get their tents up before the forecast rain and heavy storms began in earnest.

And according to the UK’s Met Office it is only going to get wetter and wetter over the next five days, threatening to turn the 1,200 acre farm into a mudbath.

A yellow weather alert has been issued wirth a Met Office spokesman saying heavy rain was expected at the world famous event that attracts some of the biggest names in pop and rock.

And the spokesman predicted that it would be just too heavy for the drains to cope, leaving the expected 175,000 festival goers to flounder in the mud.

The festival proper begins tomorrow, but there is plenty going on to keep early arrivals occupied. The day started in bright sunshine so early comers at least started off dry.

Headline acts like Metallica and Kasabian  will feature on  the Pyramid Stage over the coming few days. The first day has Lily Allen, Elbow and Rudimental on the main stage followed by Arcade Fire.

The festival has come a long way since its early days, although mud has remained a constant over the years. Revellers will be hoping the Met office has got it wrong, otherwise it could be a very soggy weekend indeed…
