Police building case against Lego thief

POLICE are hunting a man who has been targeting toyshops and stealing kids’ favourite toy Lego.

Obviously believing he can build himself a fortune the main suspect is a man in his 50s who is thought to be responsible for a string of burglaries at Toy shops in Australia.

The thief is said to have stolen and hoarded sets of Lego building blocks, which can cost hundreds of pounds. Police believe he then sold the Lego online or at local markets.

The modus operandi of the alleged thief included disabling CCTV and using angle grinders to remove doors and locks in a number of sophisticated raids on the toy shops.

The break-ins occurred across the states of New South Wales and Victoria. The Seymour Yoyworld was robbed twice late last month, with the thieves stealing $15,000 worth of mainly City and Technic Lego sets, while the latest located in the town of Lismore, where more than $11,000 worth of Lego was stolen.

“After the first robbery we improved our security,” Toy Kingdom owner Carey Horner said. “The fact he had a grinder ready to go to punch out the locks shows he was well prepared.”
