Mafia members caught in Malaga

NATIONAL POLICE have caught up with two members of the Italian mafia who were living in Malaga Province under false identities.

One of them has been arrested in Fuengirola under suspicion of belonging to the Ascione clan, in which he was the treasurer.

The other, who has already been sentenced to 15 years in prison by the Italian authorities, was arrested in Torremolinos under suspicion of belonging to the Calabrese mafia.

Both suspects had international search and arrest warrants served on them for crimes committed in Italy including drug trafficking and belonging to an organised crime group.

R.S. 39, was located in Fuengirola and was responsible for coordinating payments to members of the organisation and their families as well as collecting the profits made from extortion by the mafia branch.

R.P 63, was located in Torremolinos when he went to a doctor’s appointment. He is wanted by the Italian authorities for drug trafficking, belonging to N’Dragheta (Calabrese mafia) and for being on the run from his 15 year prison sentence.

Both detentions were a result of the National Police working closely with the Italian Carabinieri.
