Grigor Dimitrov, Known as ‘Baby Federer,’ claimed his fourth career crown and the first ever grass court title after defeating Spaniard Feliciano Lopez in the final at Queen’s.
The 23-year-old, whose promise has long been spoken of since winning the 2008 Junior Wimbledon, defeated the Toledo-born Lopez after losing the first set on a tie break, 6-7 (8-10). The Bulgarian born, emphatically claimed the second and third set tie break with 7-6 (7-1) and 7-6 (8-6), emerging victorious in defiant fashion at Queen’s club Championship.
Dimitrov became the first man this year to win titles on three different surfaces, and was cheered on from the stand by five time grand slam winner Maria Sharapova.
The golden couple now plan to conquer Wimbledon with increased hope: “You can feel it in the spirit of the trophy itself. When you lift it, it means something. The only thing I can say is I’m going to be going with a lot of positive vibes to Wimbledon.”
