ELCHE’S General Hospital has launched new technology to treat cancer.
The technique, offered by the Radiation Oncology Service is suitable for patients with Mycosis Fungoides, a type of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, causing lesions and tumours on the skin.
Elche is the first hospital in the province to offer the treatment called ‘total skin electron irradiation’ and means staff will be able to treat patients from across the province. There are an estimated 30 people in the Valencia Region diagnosed with the disease annually.
In Alicante Province there will be around 12 new patients each year who will benefit from the treatment.
The General University Hospital of Elche has had a Radiation Oncology service since 2008, offering the latest technology for the treatment of various cancers, currently serving around 650 patients a year.
