A glittering night shows the Costa community’s heart

Des O'Connor Hid Parkinson's Battle For Three Years

The Special Summer party at Villa Tiberio in aid of Children with Cancer UK was billed as one of the events of the season on the Costa, and it didn’t disappoint.

The cream of Marbella society turned up and was prepared to go the extra mile to raise money for the children, together with some pretty spectacular showbiz names, even the Mayor of Marbella; María Ángeles Muñoz Oriol came along to show her support.

The event was kicked off by firm local favourite Frankie Valentine who made everyone welcome and set the tone of the evening, and continued with Respect the Divas, a trio of gorgeous young ladies who really got the party started, and local popular singer Mel Williams was welcomed with open arms by everyone who danced along with him, the staff of Euro Weekly News included.

By far the most popular with the audience was Des O’Connor; he had everyone in stitches by dueting with himself to his old hit “Marbella”- but forgetting the words.

Mitch Winehouse sang a few classic hits and was joined by Hannah Paul; they made a spectacular duo even though they had not rehearsed together.

Alongside the local talent were some well known faces from British television and the London stage. Neil Roberts, who has just finished a stint in Mamma Mia!, had everyone in hysterics by introducing some party games and helped Maurice Boland host the auction.  Julie Atherton, also from Mamma Mia!, and Charlotte Wakefield, Maria in the Sound of Music, both took time out from their London stage day jobs to sing for the audience.

The auction had some incredible lots up for grabs, signed football memorabilia, dinner with Peter Stringfellow, as well as boxes for London theatre dates and concerts. Mitch Winehouse even donated a framed selection of Amy’s CDs which raised 3,100€. The most prolific donors were Bruce Walker and Martin Briane, and their donations alone raised several thousands of euros.

Together with ticket sales, the auction and the raffle, the evening raised over €30,000 for the children’s charity.

UK organiser, Caroline Randerson, was delighted with the evening’s events: “This year we sold double the usual number of tickets. We have never managed to sell out before. This year was the seventh edition of the event and it was a brilliant night. A special thank you has to go to everyone who helped to make it such a superb evening from Sandro, Dee and the staff at Villa Tiberio, right up to the people who made the effort to travel from the UK especially to perform for the night. And, of course the Euro Weekly News has been incredible. We couldn’t have done it without their support.

“Really, I would just like to thank everyone who helped, who came, and who made it such a special evening, raising so much money for the children. Thank you, all of you.”

So, if we have whetted your appetite and you would like a good excuse to don your glad rags, make a note in your diaries for Sunday June 22, the next huge charity party, the Butterfly Ball at Puente Romano, raising funds for the Rhys Daniels Trust. Tickets are selling very quickly, so to make sure you don’t miss out call Patti on +34 637 969 189 or the Rhys Daniels Trust UK office on +44 1992 570550.
