Axe attack

A MAN attacked his wife with an axe in their marital home and then set fire to it in Puente Tocinos, Murcia.

The man, 50, attacked his wife, 45, by hitting her in the face with an axe; they are in the process of obtaining a divorce, have been married for 25 years and have three children. After hitting his wife he tried to set fire to himself but ended up setting fire to the flat where they lived, the fire spread through the building and all the neighbours had to be evacuated.

The victim ran out of the building and to the next street where she rang on the intercom of a building asking for help.

The fire brigade put out the fire and are now assessing the structural damage to the building to see if they can let some of the neighbours back in.

The aggressor and his victim are both in hospital recovering.
