TV chef Dario Barrio killed as parachute fails to open

SPANISH TV chef Dario Barrio has been killed when his parachute failed to open and he crashed into a cliff.

The 42 year old was wearing a ‘wing suit’ enabling him to ‘fly’ at high speeds when he lost control and hit a cliff in the Sierra Segura mountain range in Jaen, Andalucia.

He was pronounced dead at the scene when, despite their best efforts, paramedics were unable to revive him.

Barrio was a well known figure on Spanish TV, first hitting the limelight in the popularTV show “Todos contra el Chef” (Everyone against the Chef).

His fatal base jump – where he leapt from a cliff in order to ‘fly’ – was part of the International Air Festival. The event’s organisers said in a statement that barrio was an experienced skydiver and that they “deeply regretted” the incident.
