Ryanair voted worst UK airline

Ryanair has been voted the UK's worst airline.

A survey of 9,000 Brits has revealed that nearly a quarter of UK holidaymakers are prepared to fly out of remote airports in order to bag cheaper flights – even if there are one (or two) connections. And a third of travellers would be willing to sacrifice refreshments for the entire duration of the flight if it meant securing a cheaper fare.

Despite these revelations, no-frills airline Ryanair, which specialises in cheap fares to out-of-town destinations, has been voted the worst UK airline.

The Trip Advisor survey found that most holidaymakers favour British Airways (23%), with Virgin Atlantic coming in at second place.

At the other end of the airline spectrum Ryanair was named as the least favourite airline to travel with by Brits.

The budget airline secured nearly half of the votes (49%), with just 2% naming it as their favourite company to fly with.

The results also show that Brits are keen bargain-hunters, with 72% of business travellers having flown with a no-frills airline in the last 12 months.

The annual Trip Advisor air travel survey also revealed that when it comes to finding the cheapest airfare, the travel agent is no longer the go-to source.

Most British travellers now search online to find the best deals, with over a third of those surveyed finding the cheapest fares on price comparison sites.

The questionnaire also found what in-flight amenities most Brits can’t do without. Some 76% say that legroom is the most important factor, compared to just 6% naming in-flight entertainment options and a tiny 3% naming meal options as crucial.

The least favoured onboard amenity was duty free shopping, which got less than one per cent of the vote.
