Andalucia wines to be promoted

Andalucia wines are to be promoted.

The Junta de Andalucia regional government is trying to persuade Andalucia restaurants that they should have local wines on their wine lists. The Director General of Quality, Innovation and Tourist Development, Manuela Gonzalez, wants to encourage bars and restaurants in the Andalucia community to support the local wine trade and offer their wines instead of those from other regions and in so doing provoke a greater commercialisation of the local product.

Gonzalez took part in a round table discussion, organised by the Malaga Food and Wine Festival, in which she called for local labels to be more prominent – she is not proposing that local restaurants only stock local wines but that they should have more of them and promote them more than wines from other regions.

She went on to comment that now that Andalucia was promoting its food it was time to also promote its wine and not leave it as some sort of an addendum to a meal but as one of its major components.
