Santa Pola port would like to get access to EU funds.
Santa Pola is looking for EU funds for the fisheries sector of the town. The initiative is part of an innovative sustainable project to revalue species that have little commercial value.
The initiative would create new jobs in the sector and would be used by other fishing towns, explained Professor Just Bayle from the Department of Marine Sciences and Applied Biology at the University of Alicante.
Bayle said: “The ultimate goal will seek the sustainability of fisheries in our sea, generating more economic activity and more jobs. Santa Pola is the driving entity of efforts to make this project succeed.”
Meetings about the initiative and funding under the FARNET (European Fisheries Areas Network) have already been discussed in Brussels.
