The Supreme Courts have condemned the ex-directorship members of Caixa Penedes to up to two years in prison. The courts consider them to have behaved in a “malicious and insidious” manner and even though they have given back the €28.6 million they stole for their pensions they will only get suspended sentences.
The four ex-bankers admitted their crimes and returned the monies outstanding.
The prosecution was asking for penalties of over three years as this would mean that the bankers would actually go to prison rather than having suspended sentences but the judges of the case considered that this was not necessary as they had given back all of the money.
Prosecutor Emilio Sanchez Ulled commented that although he was pleased that the monies had been returned he still thought that the ex-bankers should have gone to jail like all other thieves.
