The men were part of a gas-check scam.
Three people have been arrested in Alicante accused of being members of a criminal gang that billed people for unnecessary gas checks and repairs in their home. The trio were part of 26 arrests carried out in the Balearic Islands, Madrid and Malaga who mainly targeted older foreign residents living in Spain, especially German, British and Dutch living in the Balearic Islands.
Acting as workers of gas companies, the scammers detected supposed problems and faults once inside the home carrying out checks where they would then proceed to charge up to €1,200 for repairs.
The operation was led by the Guardia Civil in the Balearic Islands.
