Cabo de Gata to see vehicle restrictions

Some parts of Cabo de Gata will be off limits to vehicles.

This week, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Environment representative, Jose Manuel Ortiz, has announced the restriction of vehicles to some areas of Cabo de Gata during June 14 and September 14. The announcement was made in the Official Gazette of the Andalucian government this week.

The announcement affects “the unauthorised access of motor vehicles to natural beaches located west of San Jose, and between Genoveses and Cala Carbon in Nijar.

This restriction of access, which has been used for some years, is adopted in view of the excessively high levels of traffic during the two hottest summer months.

Ortiz concluded, “This natural area lacks the basic level of health and security services needed for the great mass of visitors and vehicles generated in the summer season.

The area presents serious path collapses and does not have the minimum security conditions necessary in case of forest fire or any other emergency situation that may require immediate or urgent action.”
