Plans for Malaga's Metro are back on track.

Work on the Malaga Metro in the Alameda Principal could start before the end of the year.

A meeting held between the Junta de Andalucia and Malaga City Hall resolved some of the city’s doubts about the plans for the metro beneath the Alameda, including converting one or both sides of the street into pedestrian areas.

Once a report has been issued by the local urban development department, the Junta de Andalucia’s Public Works Agency would aim to assign the works to a company as soon as possible, with a budget of €60 million to build a 300-metre tunnel and station.

The last stop would be on the corner of the Alameda Principal with Calle Torregorda.

Half of the Tetuan bridge would have to be dismantled, supply channels and sewerage diverted, and a tunnel built using screens.

This should take around 33 months, meaning it should be completed by mid-2017, and opened that November.
