Flat fire in Torre del Mar

Short circuit: thought to be the cause of the fire.

Two people have been injured in a fire in a Torre del Mar building.

The woman and her husband were in the kitchen when they heard their son shouting that there was a lot of smoke in the corridor, as soon as they looked out they realised that there were flames all over their home.

They tried to put the fire out themselves but the flames were already too strong so they had to call for help. The fire completely consumed their second floor, rented flat on avenida del Mediterraneo.

The fire brigade and the Local Police had to evacuate around a dozen people from the surrounding houses and buildings.

The only people injured were the woman and her husband who suffered minor burns to their hands and forearms and were attended to by ambulance workers at the scene.

A neighbour explained that she thought the fire had been provoked by a short circuit as they had to call out an electrician just a few months ago because every time they turned on a light in the building the electricity would be cut.

“We weren’t even cooking; it just started in the corridor. Thank god we weren’t asleep or it would have killed us,” commented the injured woman.

After the fire was put out the rest of the neighbours were allowed back to their houses as there was no damage except to the facade of the building.
