Hollywood pull new film releases from Russia

Filming is underway for the new Batman film which will star Hollywood actor Ben Affleck as the caped crusader.

Warner Bros have announced that the film, titled ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’, also has Henry Cavill as Superman.

The Zack Snyder-directed sequel has an all-star cast, with Israel-born actress Gal Gadot playing Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luther, Jeremy Irons as Alfred and Holly Hunter in a newly created role.

Famous faces Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane will also return from 2013’s Man of Steel to appear in the hotly-tipped sequel.

When plans for the film to star Affleck – who was the star of film flop Daredevil – were made public, superhero aficionados were horrified, arguing that the actor couldn’t do the dark knight role justice.

However, Affleck has promised fans of the character that he will do his best to make a good job of it.

Talking of his new role on US TV, Affleck said:

“Initially, I was reluctant, as I felt I didn’t fit the traditional mould, but once Zack [Snyder] showed me the concept, and that it would be both different from the great movies that Chris [Nolan] and Christian [Bale] made, but still in keeping with tradition, I was excited.

“Doing something different and new is always tricky and part of the thrill and the risk is that initially it confounds expectations. The truth is, it’s the movie and the execution of it is what all the actors depend on and I believe in Zack’s vision.”

Snyder released an image of what fans can expect of Affleck’s Batman last week and the taster took the internet by storm.

The black and white photo shows the comic-book hero next to his famous Batmobile.

The film, which is being shot in a number of locations including the USA, Africa and the South Pacific, is set to be released in May 2016.
