Abandoned Malaga ship sold

A Syrian ship operator has purchased the ship Arhon, which was abandoned at Malaga Port by its former owner in December 2010 for €101,255 at auction.

The owner, Greek operator Delta Sea Maritime refused to repair the 1,092-tonne vessel after it was immobilized by Malaga Port Authorities due to technical deficiencies.

The captain remained on the ship, built in 1976, for several months with no water or electric until leaving in 2012 when the Greek authorities gave him compensation for having been stranded in Malaga.

The rest of the crew had already returned to their countries of origin.

The 65-metre-long ship was declared abandoned last year and due to its state of disrepair, put up for auction, receiving two offers.
