Man drowns at Fuengirola beach

A 53-year-old man has drowned off Carvajal beach in Fuengirola.

Emergency services confirmed that the man died on Wednesday afternoon at around 2pm after they rushed to the scene.

They were called by several witnesses on the Costa del Sol beach who had noticed the man struggling to return to the shore.

By the time medics arrived at the scene the man had managed to get back to the beach. However, he soon lost consciousness and stopped breathing.

Medics attempted to revive the victim, who has not yet been formally identified, but repeated efforts failed.
