Arsonists arrested in Almeria

The cottage is on the road to the Cabo de Gata reserve.

Agents of the National Police have arrested two men on suspicion of arson in a cottage on the road to Cabo de Gata.

One of the men had already been arrested two days previously for illegal possession of weapons, a revolver and five cartridges.

This occurred after a call to 091 sent police to La Cañada health centre where a patient was being treated for a blow to the head.

The wounded man told officers that the man had entered his home, hitting him in the head with the butt of a gun.

Two days later, police were alerted to a fire, where neighbours were trying to extinguish the flames with water and palm leaves.

Immediate investigations found a plastic bottle containing traces of petrol. The arsonists had broken a bedroom window, doused the room with petrol and set it alight.

The home’s owner pulled a gun and fired a warning shot into the air, and recognised one of the arsonists as “Fran del Puesto”, who he had fought with previously.

With this information, officers were able to locate, “Fran” to arrest him. The second arsonist was tracked down and arrested in Valencia.
