Jay-Z and wife Beyonce on the red carpet before the Met Gala - and the lift incident.
Rap superstar Jay-Z was violently attacked by his sister-in-law Solange Knowles on May 5 at the after-party for the Met Gala at the Standard Hotel.
Solange, Beyonce, 32, and Beyonce’s husband Jay-Z, 44, were leaving the Vogue event after-party for the annual Metropolitan Museum of Art Gala in New York.
CCTV footage from the hotel lift shows Solange, 27, attacking her brother-in-law, kicking out at him, swinging violently for him and hitting him with her bag.
She can be seen mouthing angrily at her rap legend family member, who she has known, and reportedly got along well with, for years.
The assault lasted over three minutes as the lift descended to the ground floor. The footage of the incident – seemingly unprovoked – has been obtained by TMZ.
An enraged Solange was restrained by bodyguards as her singer sister Beyonce looked on, seemingly impassive.
As the trio left the lift Jay-Z looked shocked, appearing to hold his face, while wife Beyonce attempted to put on a brave face for fans.
On leaving the lift – and the altercation – Solange stormed ahead of the two.
Beyonce left the hotel in a car with her sister while husband Jay-Z, still in a daze, left in a separate vehicle.
