Brits still love Benidorm

Benidorm is still beloved by Brits.

It fell out of favour for a while, but now Spain’s Benidorm is the place to go for British holiday-makers.

And when they come, they’re looking to stay. At the moment Benidorm is the Spanish resort most popular for Brits when it comes to buying second homes

In the 1970s Benidorm was the holiday destination of choice for sun-seeking Brits – and now they’re coming back in droves.

New land registry data shows that the region is the most popular on Spain’s mainland for foreign buyers.

The figures show the proportion of villas and apartments bought by overseas buyers has tripled in the past four years to 11.15%.

It seems that money-savvy Brit buyers are taking advantage of Sterling’s strength against the Euro. Typically, a three-bedroom, two-bathroom villa, complete with pool, is around £160,000.

It’s been an added boost to the area’s popularity that budget airlines like Ryanair fly to Alicante from many UK airports.

Over the years Benidorm has tried to shed its image as a retreat for British lager louts, but it’s still often portrayed as downmarket – like in ITV comedy Benidorm.
