Dogo wins Archidona dog show

The Dogo from the Canary Islands was crowned best Spanish breed in show at the Archidona dog show.

This is the fourteenth edition of the show in which the winners from the run up shows take part.

On the first day the Andalucian dogs were the stars with the Alano and the Bodeguero both leading the way with the Podenco Andaluz and the Spanish water dog making a good show of bringing up the rear.

As well as the shows there were exhibitions from the police with sniffer dogs and attack dogs putting on an impressive show and the fire brigade’s dogs demonstrating their training by rescuing trapped people and running courses on scaffolding and through various obstacles.

The third show of the day came from the dogs of the Quercus training school which demonstrated their prowess on the agility course.

The second day was mainly concerned with prize giving and a kid’s agility show (the dogs not the kids).

The local police also put their dogs through their paces by hiding a bomb and some drugs in a car which the dog found almost immediately.
