Spain worried about nationals in Venezuela

Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel García-Margallo asserted on Monday that the Spanish government is monitoring the situation in Venezuela.

Of particular interest are the Spanish nationals detained during anti-government protests in Venezuela since February 12.

During a visit to the United States, García-Margallo told the press that “there are four Spanish citizens in custody at this moment”.

Some of those arrested have since been released without charge.

The minister stressed that Spain is very concerned about the situation in Venezuela, especially considering the fact that some 200,000 Spanish nationals live in the country.

The Spanish government is paying close attention to the situation, which is regarded as worrisome both economically and politically speaking.
