Fuengirola fair to start

This year's event is set to be very special.

The 20th edition of the International Peoples’ Fair will be held in Fuengirola from April 30 until May 4.

The local councillor for Tourism, Ignacio Souviron, said that this year the fair, which attracts up to a million visitors and is one of the town’s most popular events, will be more special than ever.

The slogan is ‘Around the World in Five Days’ and visitors will get a taste of the customs, gastronomy and folklore of 33 countries from around, including newcomers Austria, Jamaica and Senegal. Spain will have a special role.

The fair will be open from 1pm to 4am every day with a commemorative opening event on Thursday and the traditional parade of all participating countries on Saturday.

Sponsors include San Miguel, Coca-Cola, Club la Costa, Solan de Cabras and the Andalucian Tourism Board.

More than 500 direct jobs will be created, 500 artists will be in the city, and it is hoped that hotels will be fully booked. More information available on www.visitafuengirola.com.

There will be a ‘Taste of Malaga’ stand, to promote local products at the entrance to the fairground where several businesses will promote their honey, olive oil, wines, cakes, olives and cheeses. The stand will open 1pm to 10pm.

There will also be an International Trade Fair with 75 stalls with food, leisure and fashion products.
