Former Dynasty actress Kate O’Mara has died following a short illness at a Sussex nursing home at the age of 74.

The star is best remembered for her role as Alexis Colby’s scheming sister, Cassandra “Caress” Morrell, in the 80s soap Dynasty.

She also had roles in TV programmes like Doctor Who, Howards’ Way, Triangle and Benidorm.

In the 70s O’Mara was in a number of programmes including The Return of the Saint and The Brothers. She also had a recurring role in TV’s prison drama Bad Girls.

In the 90s O’Mara had a role in hit comedy series Absolutely Fabulous, playing the sister of Patsy, the character played by Joanna Lumley.

O’Mara’s agent Phil Belfield said: “She was extraordinary, she had so much energy and vitality with a love for theatre and acting.

“A shining star has gone out and Kate will be dearly missed by all who knew and have worked with her.”

Dynasty co-star Joan Collins tweeted: “Tragic news about Kate O’Mara, we had great fun on Dynasty when she played my sister Caress… RIP.”

Doctor Who actor Colin Baker tweeted about the loss: “Oh my goodness. Kate O’Mara is no longer with us. Sad sad news. A delightful, committed and talented lady and actress. We are the poorer.”
