Mourinho Calls Madrid´s Varane ‘The best young defender in the world’

José Mourinho thinks Varane is the best

Chelsea´s José Mourinho has hailed Real Madrid’s Centre Back Raphael Varane as ‘the best young defender in the world’.

Mourinho praised the player, who he signed during his managerial spell in the Spanish capital for £8 million back in 2011.

When asked about Varane, who appeared for France on Wednesday night during their 2-0 win over Holland, the Portuguese manager told The Sun: ‘I think he is the best young central defender in the world. Already I think he’s the best.’

Mourinho believes Varane, Barcelona player Neymar and Chelsea’s very own Eden Hazard will be the ones to watch during this Summer´s hotly anticipated World Cup in Brazil.

He said: ‘A young player must be somebody who plays in the World Cup for the first time.’

‘These are players like Hazard, Neymar and Rafa Varane. Maybe I forget some others.”

Mourinho also says that playing for a club like Chelsea increases a player’s chances of an international call-up.

‘When Willian was playing for Shakhtar and Anzhi, he was not going to the national team and certainly when he comes to Chelsea after a couple of months he is selected, so I think for some reason that happens,’ said Mourinho.

‘They have to be at Chelsea to have the honour of being selected.’
