Oscar Pistorius trial adjourned on day two after witness identified

The murder trial of Paralympic athlete Oscar Pistorius was briefly adjourned this morning after a witness who did not wish to be identified was shown.

On day one of the trial, witness Michelle Burger, who is a university worker and former neighbour of the athlete, told the court that she heard terrible screams from a woman in the early hours of the morning when the shooting took place.

During cross-examination this morning, it was revealed in court that Miss Burger’s face had been shown despite the court order, while local publications are said to have taken a photo of the witness from the University of Pretoria website.

According to The Telegraph, a statement from local independent television channel eNCA claimed that they did not broadcast an image of Miss Burger from court, but used one that was ‘publicly available’.

Proceedings have since resumed in the Pretoria court.
