ENRIQUE GOMEZ: Killed by a car whilst cycling
A CYCLIST, 33, died in the Campanillas area of Malaga following a collision with a car.
The accident occurred at around 7.30am when the car, heading towards Cartama, hit the cyclist on a straight piece of road when the driver intended to overtake.
Several people aged between 25 and 30 were travelling in the vehicle on their way home from a night out. The driver tested positive for amphetamines. She has been charged with a crime against road safety.
The victim was not carrying ID but was later identified as Enrique Gomez, a National Police officer based in Fuengirola. He was married with a daughter of six months.
A solidarity protest has been planned by the cycling groups ‘Ruedas Redondas’ Association and Conbici, together with other Malaga cycling clubs. It will be held this Sunday, February 9, departing from the Town Hall (Ayunatmiento) in Avda Ortega y Gasset at 10.00am. The cyclists will meet at the Town Hall and cycle passed the Traffic Department and on to the site of the accident.
