Love bus man back behind bars

Antequera Bus Station: prisoner stole bus to visit girlfriend

A MAN, 57, who stole a bus ‘for love’ has been arrested.

He was on weekend release from Alhaurin de la Torre prison and after leaving a declaration of love on the wall in the toilets in Antequera bus station, he decided to steal a bus and head to Albolote prison, in Granada, to visit his girlfriend.

At around 3am, he got past the security guard, broke into a bus and drove it away, knocking down a wall as he went. Although the police were called immediately, for the next 30 minutes, the man attempted to drive the bus through the town, but damaged cars, walls, traffic lights and other street furniture, as well as ripping off one of the bus’ doors.

Alarmed locals called the police. When the bus was found abandoned in a cul-de-sac, the runaway driver had disappeared. However, security cameras caught images of him leaving the town. He was identified and arrested at Alhaurin de la Torre prison, where he had returned on time. He has refused to testify about the events and remains in prison.

He has been charged with stealing a vehicle, damaging public and private property and endangering road safety.
