Málaga CF lose against Barcelona

Málaga Club de Fútbol lost by 3-0 to Fútbol Club Barcelona at the Nou Camp, in the 21st BBVA League game of the season. Piqué put the home side in the lead in the 39th minute, during the first half in which the ‘Malaguistas’ had numerous goal opportunities. As the second half kicked off, Pedro and Alexis got another two goals to put Barça 3-0 up, despite a consistently strong attacking display by Málaga CF.

There were a few changes to Málaga Club de Fútbol’s starting-11 this evening, compared to the last League game.  In defence, Angeleri took the place of Jesús Gámez, whilst in midfield Juanmi was on the right wing and Pablo Pérez was in a more upfront position on the pitch, both taking the place of Samuel and Eliseu.

FC Barcelona soon had their first shot at goal thanks to Alexis after five minutes, however the ball hit the post.  The Blue and Whites had a very organised approach and were focused on the counter attack.  A free kick by Duda didn’t find the target, thanks to an impressive save by Víctor Valdés.

As time went on, Bernd Schuster’s men looked more and more comfortable on the pitch.  However Barça could well have opened the scoring with a chance for Alves on the right, had it not been for an impressive Willy save, followed by a powerful Jordi Alba shot that led to a corner.  It was a blow for Málaga Club de Fútbol when Santa Cruz was forced to abandon play through injury.  Pawlowski took his place, and following a foul on the Polish-born striker by Piqué, the Barcelona player was shown a yellow card.  The subsequent free kick for Málaga taken by Duda, came close to a goal for Angeleri, but the ball didn’t find the net.

FC Barcelona’s first goal came in the 39th minute from an unmarked Piqué following a corner kick, putting the local team 1-0 up at half time.

Málaga Club de Fútbol was really into the game in the second half.  A pass from Antunes looked promising for Pawlowski and Juanmi, but neither came through.  It was Tata Martino’s side that continued to generate more goal opportunities as play continued.  First it was Fábregas who tried his luck, but Willy won the battle, and later Piqué following a corner sent the ball off target.  However it was a different story for Pedro, who launched a precise shot at goal from the left wing, which Willy was unable to prevent.  Later Alexis found the net, after an assist from Pedro, to put Barça 3-0 in the lead.

The Blue and Whites didn’t give up.  A 40 metre-long shot at goal by Duda could well have got the visitors a goal, but Víctor Váldes was right on his tail.  Despite the 3-0 defeat, Málaga CF performed well at the Nou Camp this evening.
