Wawrinka beats Nadal to win Australian Open

Congratulations to Stan Wawrinka on beating Rafael Nadal in four sets to win his first-ever Grand Slam title. Although the Spaniard was suffering from a back injury, all credit to the Swiss star who was outstanding in Australia. Remember, he also knocked out Novak Djokovic and by beating Nadal, became the first man to defeat the world’s top two players in the same tournament since 1993.

Chinese superwoman Li Na defeated Slovakian Dominika Cibulkova 7-6, 6-0 to win her second major trophy, following her 2011 triumph in France.

Almost 644,000 spectators attended the fortnight’s event in Melbourne.
