Malaga divorce rate drops due to cost

Malaga’s divorce rate has plunged by 12.5 per cent in just a year.

It is thought that the economic crisis plus court charges have led to unhappy couples staying legally married just to spare the expense of a divorce.

Getting a divorce can be expensive and becoming less attractive to the average person with many couples deciding to stay together because they cannot afford to be separate.

In some cases they go to a lawyer to ask for a divorce and then realise that they cannot afford it and so stay together.

The average divorce costs around €500 and this can be brought down by about 35 per cent if both parties can agree on all the details.
