Murcia’s electric debate

PRESIDENT PP MURCIA: Ramon Luis Valcarcel Siso

MEMBERS of the Murcia PP have been slammed for voting in favour of the controversial Electric Power Act that reduces subsidies on renewable energy.

Just a few days previously Regional President, Ramon Luis Valcarcel, had said the regional party would not support it.

As a result, Murcia’s Partido Socialist party has called for the resignation of Valcarcel. Murcia deputy, Maria Gonzalez, said: “Of the 55,000 families affected in Spain by the new guidelines, almost half are in the region of Murcia and many families are being left in the dark. The only one to blame is the PP.”

She added: “Valcarcel said he would fight for the energy reform not to be approved in Parliament, but the result, once again, has been disappointing.”

The PP defended itself against the accusations saying that its members “had voted in favour of case-by-case reviews of the investments made by Murcian’s in solar energy installations and to ensure a reasonable profit for each of these investors.”
