There has been widespread reporting of Spain’s new legislation, the ‘Public Safety Law’, notably regarding the extremely large fines for taking part in demonstrations.
Also within the new law, are very harsh fines for drug use. Previously lax laws regarding, for example, carrying a small amount of hashish in your pocket, are being redefined as a serious offence, carrying a minimum fine of €1,001. This means that even the minimum fine is at least a 300 per cent increase on current laws.
They also plan to further penalise ‘plantation and cultivation of toxic drugs.’ The fine for having one marihuana plant on your terrace would be up to €30,000.
A similar penalty would be applied to anyone drinking alcohol in a public place.
