World of Sofas

Furniture retailer ‘World of Sofas’ is coming up to their fourth Anniversary in Spain & what an interesting four years it has been.

During this time, Spain has undoubtedly seen the most turbulent trading period experienced in most people’s living memory, what with the housing market almost coming to a standstill, many people have been worried about the economy & their job security, even retired folk relying on overseas pensions have seen them eroded by worsening exchange rates.

We look back at the last four years & see how a small independent furniture retailer managed to be one step ahead.

World of Sofas first came about after the owners, who have holiday homes on the Costa del Sol, needed to furnish their homes. They both recognized immediately the lack of choice & competition within this market place, every furniture shop they went into looked the same, they all had the same styles & to be honest, the stock looked rather dated.

As seasoned furniture retailers themselves for many years back in the UK & having had a chain of over 140 successful stores, they decided to use their expertise here too.

The first store was opened on the Mijas road nearly four years ago, followed on a while later with a larger store in Velez Malaga.

The idea was simple, to offer UK style furniture at the best prices possible, the buyers travel all over the world sourcing unusual & interesting pieces for the shops. As the name would imply, they do retail sofas in fabrics & leather, they also offer sofa beds, beds, garden furniture, BBQ’s, pictures, mirrors, rugs & all manner of accessories to liven up your home.

Similar to the fashion industry, they need to remain one step ahead to ensure that the models are regularly up dated & remain fresh, Hence the current 500,000€ Stock clearance sale.

General Manager Simon Scott explains, “As we are now coming to the end of another successful year, it is necessary to clean out the old & bring in the new”. We need to move the ex display models quickly to make way for all the new stock that will be arriving shortly. There is only one surefire way of turning stock into cash quickly & that is by slashing the prices. These are all ex display models that are available for immediate delivery. So if you really want a bargain, then hurry & come and see us before they are all gone”.

Simon also feels very confident about the future, he comments, “I can really feel a change in the wind and people are feeling more optimistic, there are definite signs that the housing market is picking up again & this is exactly what we all need to get the economy moving again. I do think the future looks bright”.
