Altea residents will soon be able to register bicycles on a Policia Local database.
The local town hall has signed an agreement with the Ciudades por la Bicicleta network to participate in the “Biciregistro” scheme.
This assists residents in identifying and reclaiming bicycles that have been lost or stolen.
Cyclists wanting to register their bicycles should access the www.biciregistro.es website and upload a photograph of their bicycle. They will later receive a sticker from the OAC citizens’ services office.
Registering in this way both safeguards bicycles and has been shown to reduce the number of thefts, town hall sources said.
