Strengthening ties with Japan

MIJAS will strengthen its cultural ties with Japan with events to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the arrival of the Japanese in Spain.

Until September 30, several events are being held, including two exhibitions, a Japanese dance show and karaoke event, organised by the Japanese Embassy, the Spanish-Japanese Tourism Association and the town hall.

One exhibition will be open until September 30 at the Patio de Fuentes in the local town hall, and the other at the Tourism Office. The dance show will be at Las Lagunas Theatre next Friday at 8pm, and tickets are €12.

The Karaoke event will be between Wednesday and September 30 and recordings of the ‘Hana wa saku’ (To flourish again) Japanese song being sung by locals will be shown on Japanese TV to show the solidarity of Mijas towards the people affected by the Fukushima tsunami.

Around 150,000 Japanese tourists visit Mijas each year.
