Big guns join in local tournament

THE big guns of Almeria, Valencia, Villareal and Real Betis were the star attractions at the first Marmol Cup youth football tournament in Olua del Rio.

The event, organised by the town hall with the collaboration of the Sports Department and local company Cosentino brought together 16 teams.

The provincial clubs from La Cañada, Albox, Los Gallardos, El Ejido 2012, Club Deportivo Vera, Club Natacion Almeria, Polideportivo Aguadulce, Velez Rubio, Huercal-Overa, Comarca de Nijar, Club Deportivo Mojacar and hosts Comarca del Marmol completed the list of teams hoping to lift the trophy.

Saturday saw a full day of sporting action as teams competed to reach the semi finals on Sunday.

The four ‘big guns’, all in La Liga (premier division) won through to Sunday with Almeria winning the first semi final against Valencia and Real Betis beating Villareal after a penalty shoot out.

The final played over 20 minutes each way in front of a good sized crowd was won by the youngsters of Almeria with a 2-1 victory with Valencia claiming third place after defeating Villareal 3-2.
